Damn! That's Hawt!
I cannot even begin to say how much I love this poster... Jimi from Bisbee Pop Narcotic came up with this the day AFTER he sent the ones I thought were the one... Judas Priest! This guy has the goods! I will print all 3 posters for the show and they will be plastered all over town by the end of this upcoming week.
This show is going to be a bunch of fun... I just got word that Rachael is bringing a cello player! She couldn't get Dave Eggar. And while he is my personal fave (for a bunch of reasons..) I know that Rachael only works with superior talent so the new guy, Ward Williams will add a soulful dimension to the show to be sure.
I am excited that Sally and I get to do this again. While I'd like to think I have a decent ability to put on shows that have good attendance, I haven't even begun to do what I can do here in that realm. The new theater The Bisbee Royale is going to bring some serious talent to this wonderful town... and it just gives the rest of us schlubs who want to bring shows here a good challenge to get people out to hear even more varied types of music in smaller venues.
The Royale is going to be a beautiful venue.. you can just feel it. Even in it's current state, there is a vibe in there and you can get a sense of what's to come. I personally am excited as hell for it to get open.
In the meantime... I am gonna be out telling everyone who will listen about the Rachael Sage Show on March 22nd at Roka..

Saturday was an ass kicker!
Holy busy day Batman! KAAAA-POW!
That was a day that was pretty much start to finish, a good 75 mph feel. I made it to Fred's party, but in nowhere near the festive mood I would have liked... I am still kinda sick and we worked our asses off at Poco so I was tired.. We got major slammy mcslammersoned at dinner and the place fills up quickly as we only have indoor seating for about 20. So by the time I left at about 8pm, I got home accepted the fact that I will always look like a matronly nun in a dress.. and schlepped my ass down to the party to tell Fred how much I loved him. And I do.
The party was largely a bunch of familiar faces, but not really many of my peeps, so it was not too hard to extract myself and get back after around an hour there. I loved how completely dressed up everyone was.. we are a beautifully vibrant community here! And my matronly nun look was jazzed up a bit by glasses, pearls and a funky 60's/70's scarf and a leather jacket. My Cole Haan loafers (the only dressy pair of black shoes down here in the house) were super cold and not suited for the night air... but damn... back in the day they did wonders for those summer evenings in shorts with a bitchn' tan... and a crisp white shirt!
Eveningwear?
Not-so-much.
And now... it's time to gear up for Sunday Brunch at Poco! A good time for sure!

Last night in Bisbee.
It does take a concerted effort to stay on task in seeking out people I need information from and friends I really want to see in my brief time here. I shall be returning in about 2 weeks to Tucson, which hopefully will yield another trip down here for a day or so to say hello yet again.
Spoke to my contractor of choice today and he seemed willing to look at the extra work that will need to be done on my house here so that is yet another positive outcome from this trip down here.
The weather was stunning all day, and one of the wacky things I got to witness was seeing AZ Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords come into my pal Mark's shop and ask for a handmade Obama Doll to personally hand to President Obama! After she got done with her business I reminded her that there was NO WAY she could leave Bibsee without saying hello to Gretchen. I gave Gretchen a call and she got down there pretty quick and had a tearful reunion. Goodness, all the way around.
I'm about to go into Old Bisbee to harass my pals at Cafe Roka on my last night here. This visit has been to short, but has filled my heart up for sure!

And here is The Birthday Girl... Miss Sally Holcomb receiving her goopy chocolate "whatever" nice and early on the day of The Blessed Event!
I will say, she tried to get her hair in order prior to the photo... but who cares, right? It's a birthday object with flames and love... THAT is what it's all about!!

Oh Bisbee...
Morning doves, cactus wrens, crisp blue skies.... it's morning in Bisbee.
Today is my pal Sally's birthday and I have a piece of chocolate cake up here in the room to go down to surprise her with. Gotta make some killer coffee then sing her the patented song... the Layton one.

Let's take a moment to talk about some goodness in the world.
Who is this man?

Why is he smiling?
First... he's smiling because he's a happy guy.
Second... he just got awarded Principal of the Year for the entire state of Arizona.
Look no further for educational goodness my friends...
IT'S TAD BLASS!!!!
Tad has more or less moved from Bisbee to be in Sierra Vista but he is firmly entrenched in our hearts as one of our most bestest pals in these parts. It's not often we get to hear about good things going on in schools. I have seen Tad at work..(mostly at play though..) and the kids at Buena High School treat him with a great amount of respect and he's very accessible to them.
Way to go Tad... you deserve this and so much more!!!
Three cheers for Tad!!!

This is Bisbee..

I love the fact that even though there were only a few renegade derby participants they did it anyway. It was somewhat anti-climactic, but very small town fun kinda stuff. There were about 20 spectators on Brewery Gulch up by the Mimosa Market to watch the silliness. It was over in about 7 minutes. I have a real affinity for all of the quirky stuff that goes on here. Somehow it enriches my soul to see people being so self expressed. I always said that I thought I was a very self expressed person till I came to Bisbee and watched my pals do kareoke at various bars here. I realized how stifled I really am. I can see the talent in people, and I am a total snob when it comes to most things.. music,art,coffee,food,friends...so watching the creativity that is a daily occurance here in Bisbee is invigorating. Plus, I had my ipod earphone in one ear and the music was fantastic!!
I'm streaming WXPN from Philly this morning. Great station! We are working to build Ms. Hamlin in the Philly area, and it's just one of the things I'm doing.. getting familiar. And ya know, Jane is close to Philly so I will continue to send her stupid things in the mail to make sure she's entertained.
